Synopsis

An Accidental Pirate
The Possibly True Adventures of Fanny Campbell

An Accidental Pirate is a rollicking historical fiction taking us from pre-colonial New England to the wilds of Cuba, led by a fiercely independent heroine. There will be disguises and secrets, sea battles, hurricanes, pirates, both elegant and rowdy and true love.

In Colonial Rhode Island, fiery, red- haired Fanny Campbell is a crack shot, a fearless sailor and an expert with broadswords and daggers.

Her life changes with the arrival of Will, a young British naval officer, who, beguiled by her fierce independence, begins to pursue her. Fanny has no time for his nonsense, but Will is fascinated and persistent. They sail, shoot, fight, laugh, and friendship blossoms into love. Will is called back to sea, to hunt pirates, but not before a beautiful hilltop wedding.

After two years, Fanny receives word Will is being held in a Cuban prison. She disguises herself as a man and signs on to a merchant vessel as Frank Campbell. The ship captured by The Bloody Rose, the most fearsome pirate ship at sea. In order to keep looking for Will, she she accepts an unexpected invitation to join their crew.

As they sail on, there are more questions and mysteries than there are answers.  Will The Bloody Rose make it through the gauntlet of Spanish warships on its way to Cuba? Will Fanny somehow be exposed as a woman?  Will she ever find her beloved Will? There will be fierce sea battles, unexpected deaths, dangerous jungle treks, and ocean-going disasters before there are answers.
